Oahu Wedding Photographer | Erin + Kevin

This wasn’t a destination wedding – it was coming home for Erin Kaiulani (Oahu wedding photographer), who spent all her summers on the North Shore of Oahu. She + her beau, Kevin, wanted to plan their day based around their favorite things, and that meant forgoing elements that are sometimes synonymous with weddings. She tells us, Our inspiration came from the fact that we love being sustainable, Kevin loves surfing, and we just really like the vibrant, tropical look. Because our guests had been cooped up during COVID, we really wanted them to enjoy a breathtaking Hawaii wedding venue, plate lunch, and shave ice. I wanted our wedding to reflect us and not just “the wedding tradition.” We felt like things should be done because we wanted to do them, not because it was a wedding. Big high five to that!

Check out their stunning tropical, colorful themed wedding at Moli’i Gardens in Kualoa Ranch. With so many tears and hugs from family and friends, a very special surprise gift for the groom, and hula dancing into the night under the stars and palm trees, it was truly a wedding that encompassed the meaning of aloha.

Thanks so much to Nicole Catherine Photo, who documented this day just perfectly, and congrats to the newlyweds, Erin + Kevin!

BHLDN Wedding Dress

Erin on her dress, I chose to wear a BHLDN dress instead of a real wedding dress because it was way more me. It was also cheaper, more timeless and way easier to move in which was awesome!! I then went shopping with my bridesmaids and each choose a dress based on colors I chose and it came together so well; I love the mismatched look.

Unfortunately, Erin’s dress is no longer available at BHLDN, but for a bride wanting something truly different + unique, check out the different styles available!

WEDDING SIGNAGE

Erin + Kevin’s surfboard-inspired seating chart would be a fun DIY to recreate! We love that it’s not a super difficult project, but the end result is so fun + impactful. Also, Erin designed all the signage herself using Canva. After the wedding she printed wedding photos and reused the gold frames. Win, win!

OUR ADVICE TO THOSE PLANNING NOW

Instead of boring appetizers, choose a fun activity/snack during cocktail hour! Our guests truly felt like they were on a vacation in Hawaii grabbing a shave ice from The Shoreline Truck. The biggest thing, do things because the two of you want to do them, not just because you think you should. A wedding is about the couple and should reflect that in every way!

Erin’s mom made this wedding cake! The cake topper is a vintage salt and pepper shaker the couple keeps on their dining table.
